Panthers Fall in Doubleheader vs. UMSL

St. Louis, Mo. – The Kentucky Wesleyan softball team fell in both games of their doubleheader on Sunday vs. Missouri – St. Louis.

Wesleyan (2-11, 0-0 G-MAC) got on the board first in Game 1. In their first turn at the plate, Cam Mann singled, Lexie Onyett reached on an error, and Chloe Apple then hit a two-RBI triple to give the Panthers an early 2-0 lead.

The Tritons wasted no time getting those runs back, recording two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first to tie the game at 2-2.

UMSL (7-6, 0-0 GLVC) added another in the second before the Panthers took the lead right back in the top of the third. Mann reached on an error to set up Onyett, who launched her first home run of the season over the center field fence to put Wesleyan on top 4-3.

The Tritons tied the game once again in the bottom half before a couple quiet innings came and went for both offenses. Later, in the bottom of the fifth, UMSL hit a three-run home run to steal back the advantage at 7-4, which they would never relinquish on their way to the victory.

The Panthers' bats never woke up in Game 2, unable to get one around the bases in the final game of the road trip. UMSL tallied three runs in the third and one in the fourth, and that was all starter Ashley Borowitz would need in the 4-0 triumph.

Immi Mann had a solid start for Wesleyan, recording four strikeouts and giving up three earned runs in six innings. AJ Middleton had two hits to lead the offense.

Wesleyan opens their 2025 home slate next weekend with a series against Davenport. With a doubleheader on both Saturday and Sunday, the first of the four-game series will begin at 12:00 PM on March 8 at Foster Field.
