GRAND RAPIDS, MI. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team continued through the Great Midwest Conference slate with a visit to Davenport University, the G-MAC's newest associate member. The Panthers lost the head-to-head match-up on Sunday to Davenport 36-6.
The Panthers continued to show improvement and development on the mat. At 133-pounds
Larson Pilant fell behind early, but appeared to have the conditioning edge over his opponent Shawn McGuire. In the final minute Pilant caught McGuire in a head lock, but could not gain control before the clock expired, dropping a 10-2 decision.
The same script seemed to be in play at 141-pounds with
Juan Quintana and Lucas Nagle. Nagle established a lead, but once action moved into the third period Nagle kept backing away from Quintana. At the end Quintana was forced to take a risk and wound-up dropping the match 10-5.
Tay Martinez fell 8-2 in his match at 165-pounds.
Drayden McKerrow earned a forfeit at 197 pounds. The final match of the day saw the most dramatics.
Gavyn Uribes fell behinds Andrew Dupree 3-1 after one period at heavyweight. The match remained at a 3-1 into the final period when Uribes took-down Dupree with 12 seconds left. After Dupree was awarded his riding time point, the match went to overtime tied 4-4. Dupree was quicker off the whistle as he took down Uribes to end the match in sudden victory.
