Owensboro, Ky. – Fatih Huyuk went a perfect 8-8 from the field on his way to a season-high 18 points on top of four rebounds and three assists to lead the Kentucky Wesleyan men's basketball team to a dominating 85-50 victory over Northwood on Thursday night inside the Sportscenter.
It's the Panthers' 3rd-consecutive victory, moving them to 13-4 overall and 7-2 in the G-MAC. Northwood fell to 6-13 overall and 2-9 in the G-MAC with the loss.
Edward Jones Jr. began the game with a jumper and a three-pointer, and the rest of the Panthers followed suit. The game was tied at 12 before Wesleyan embarked on a 31-15 run to close the first half, as Huyuk capped the first 20 minutes off with a slam to send the Panthers into the break up 43-27.
The Timberwolves never got closer than 14 in the second half, with Wesleyan doing a strong job of controlling the pace. Huyuk had another dunk early in the frame, and two Kennedy Miles three-pointers effectively put the game away.
Off the bench, big man Alex Tsynkevich impressed with nine points on a perfect 4-4 from the field, all coming in the final nine minutes.
Overall, Jones Jr. came in alongside Huyuk with 18 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals while shooting 7-10 from the field. Miles poured in 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists on the night, and Quentin Toles added nine points and eight rebounds.
The Panthers tallied more points off turnovers (12-4), more bench points (22-14), more points in the paint (44-36), and more fast break points (10-3), encapsulating an all-around team effort.
Wesleyan is back inside the Sportscenter on Saturday, January 25 for a rematch with the Malone Pioneers, who they defeated 68-66 back in December. First tip is set for 3:00 PM, with the women preceding at 12:45 PM.
