Panthers Play Host to Northwood & Malone

Both Wesleyan teams bring win streaks into the Sportscenter

Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men and women's basketball teams return to the Owensboro Sportscenter this week, playing host to Northwood on Thursday (5:30/7:45) and Malone on Saturday (12:45/3:00).

The Kentucky Wesleyan men's basketball team won both their games last week, defeating Ohio Dominican on Thursday and Cedarville on Saturday. The team is now 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the G-MAC, in possession of sole third place in the conference with just Findlay (8-0) and Hillsdale (8-1) above them.

The Panthers were led by Quentin Toles in those two victories, with the junior guard tallying a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds at Ohio Dominican and following that with a team-high 20 points on 8-14 shooting with seven rebounds at Cedarville.

The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team is coming off an undefeated four-game road trip in which the Panthers downed Lake Erie, Walsh, Ohio Dominican, and Cedarville in that order, winning by an average margin of victory of nearly 17 points and improving to 9-5 overall and 5-4 in the G-MAC.

Junior Myah Montgomery had an impressive trip, averaging just under 16 points a game across those four contests while shooting 48% from the field. The forward has now scored in double digits in six of the Panthers' last eight games, including three 19+ point performances in that span.

About Northwood Basketball

The Northwood men's basketball team (6-12, 2-8 G-MAC) is led by graduate senior Elijah Watson, who is averaging 14.4 points and 5.6 rebounds on over 50% shooting from the field. Junior Will Young II and sophomore Jamison Eklund round out the Timberwolves attack, with the former recording 13.2 points and the latter totaling 10.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

The Northwood women's basketball team (8-9, 6-3 G-MAC) has an impressive three-headed monster running the show. Redshirt freshman Lea Holmes is one of the best statistical players in the conference, averaging 15.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest. Additionally, senior Maddie Voelker is right behind her with 15.2 points on nearly 40% shooting from outside the arc, and junior Maeve St. John stuffs the stat sheet nightly with 14.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.

About Malone Basketball

The Malone men's basketball team (7-10, 3-6 G-MAC) has five players averaging double figures on the season: graduate senior Simon Blair (14.6), senior Ryan Bartley (12.9), graduate senior Tre Baumgardner III (12.2), redshirt-junior Caleb Conard (11.2), and senior Ed Wright II (10.0). The Pioneers are a vastly experienced group looking to climb in the G-MAC standings, but they'll battle a Wesleyan team looking to sweep the season series after an Edward Jones Jr. tip-in buzzer beater gave the Panthers a 68-66 win back on December 16.

The Malone women's basketball team has been the best in the conference this season, sitting at 14-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the G-MAC, including a narrow 75-71 defeat of Wesleyan in December. The Pioneers were also ranked #23 in the D2CSC Women's Basketball Media Poll this week. Junior Erin Kaufman is arguably the top statistical player in the conference, logging 16.6 points and 8.4 rebounds with team highs in field goal percentage (58%), assists (25), steals (30), and blocked shots (11).

Tickets can be purchased at owensborotickets.com and contests will be broadcast on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
