OWENSBORO, KY - Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball (5-4, GMAC 1-3) fell to Cedarville (7-5, GMAC 3-1) 74-52 on Thursday evening. The Panthers struggled offensively, shooting 36% from the field and 18% behind the arc.
Sydnee Richetto continued her hot streak, scoring 15 points on the night. The senior guard is averaging 19.3 points per game in the last four contests.
Richetto's floater was the lone bucket in the first three minutes of the game, as both teams struggled to get going coming off of Christmas break. The Yellowjackets turned it on, as they went on a quick 9-2 run.
Asia Sawyers drove in the lane and scored to stop the bleeding. The Panthers trailed 18-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Cedarville opened up the second quarter on yet another run, this time out-pacing the Panthers 9-1. Richetto's pull-up jumper off the glass cut the Yellowjacket lead to 18 with 35 seconds left in the first half. Cedarville won the quarter 19-7.
Myah Montgomery drilled a triple to open up the third. Midway through the quarter, Richetto made THREE three-pointers in just over two minutes. Wesleyan trailed 65-40 entering the final quarter.
Emma Bruwer and Sawyers each scored four points in the fourth.
Vilborg Jonsdottir and Bruwer each finished with eight points, as Jonsdottir tacked on four assists and three rebounds. Montgomery and Sawyers each recorded seven points and four boards.
The Panthers will be right back at the Sportscenter on Saturday, January 4
th as they face Walsh at 12 p.m.
