Owensboro, Ky. - The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team was defeated twice on Friday as part of the eight-team Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational.
The Panthers (0-6, 0-0 G-MAC) have had some close battles but have failed to claim a set so far this season.
In the first match of the day, Wesleyan was downed by Christian Brothers University with a score of 16-25, 13-25, 19-25.
Gracie Newton led the way for the Panthers with six kills, three digs, and a .455 attack percentage on her way to a team-high eight points. Unfortunately, the freshman was the lone bright spot in an otherwise tough match in which the team combined to hit -.069.
For Christian Brothers, Calah Jackson shined with 12 kills and two aces while Jordan Allen had eight kills of her own and hit .375.
In Wesleyan's second match of the day, the Panthers fought hard in all three sets but ultimately fell 21-25, 19-25, 21-25 to the University of Illinois-Springfield.
The Prairie Stars hit an impressive .248 in the match, totaling 37 total kills and led by an astonishing 17 by Makenna Cox.
For the Panthers, Havannah John and Kamryn Parlin excelled with nine and eight kills, respectively. John also had two blocks and Julia Kupper added three aces and 19 assists.
