SAINT LEO, FL -
Seth Wright pitch a gem of a game, as the senior hurler allowed just one run in five innings to the #14 team in the nation. Unfortunately Kentucky Wesleyan didn't give Wright quite enough run support, as Saint Leo came back from down 3-1 in the fifth to win the game 4-3 in 10 innings and sweep the four-game series.
SLU improves to 17-2 while Wesleyan drops to 1-15.
The Lions started the game on top, scoring a run in the bottom of the first to quickly take a lead on the visiting Panthers.
Braden Vinyard quickly answered, as he hit a two-run shot to left field in the top of the second to score
Braxton French and put the Panthers up 2-1. French then scored his second run of the game in the top of the fourth, using his speed to take advantage of a wild pitch, making it 3-1 in favor of the Panthers.
Errors would cost the Panthers, as in the sixth inning, after the Lions had already plated a run, a throwing error led to their third run, tying the game. In the bottom of the tenth, another throwing error led led to the first batter getting on first base. Two batters later and a single up the middle would score the winning run for the home side.
Braxton French was 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs scored in the game, while
Braden Vinyard was 1-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.
Seth Wright struck out seven in five innings of work. Despite not allowing an earned run,
Bryant Byrd (0-1) took the loss.
The Panthers open up conference play next week when they travel to Canton, Ohio, to take on the Pioneers. First pitch will take place on Saturday, March 16th at 2 p.m. CT.
