INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team was back on the mat on Sunday competing at the Greyhound Open. The Panthers' day was highlighted by
Drayden McKerrow and
Robert Ward who both made the placing rounds.
McKerrow's day started with a loss in the opening round at 184-pounds. After the loss, McKerrow won four straight decisions. In the consolation round McKerrow won by major decision over Ty Hafke 13-1. He then picked-up an 8-1 win over Dalton Schell of Quincy.
After wins over Jacob Jones, 14-9, and Charlie Herdorn, 3-2, McKerrow was in the consolation semifinals. A loss to Owen Butler put McKerrow in the seventh-place match. However, McKerrow had reached his limit of matches for the weekend and loss via no-contest.
Robert Ward finished 3-3 on the day as he made it to the seventh-place match at heavyweight. Ward also lost his opening round match, but followed with three straight decisions to reach the consolation semifinals. Caleb Groff of Quincy defeated Ward 7-2 in the consolation semi-finals to end his winning streak.
At 149-pounds,
Will Keener finished his open with 2-2 record. Keener won his opening round match 12-5 over Ivan Williams over Glenville State. After a loss in the next round, Keener picked-up a major decision in the consolation round over Isaac Richardson 14-5.
The Panthers will have two weeks to prepare for the Glenville State Duals on February 22
nd. Wesleyan will match-up with Glenville State, Notre Dame, and Frostburg State. Competition begins at 2 PM.
