AUGUSTA, GA. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team continued its series with Augusta University on Saturday. With inclement weather moving into the area, Sunday's game was moved up into a Saturday doubleheader. The Panthers fell 17-3 in the opener before completing the series with a 3-1 loss.
Things looked bright at the start of the day's opener with
Cade Moore hitting a solo homerun in the top of the first inning. The Jaguars utilized the long ball as well in the bottom of the second inning. Augusta took a 3-1 lead after two innings after Kyle LoRoche hit a three-run homerun.
Moore led off the third inning with a double and later scored on
Braxton French's RBI single. The Jags (3-4) scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning distancing the Panthers and securing the win. Moore finished the game three for four with a homerun, double, and RBI.
Evan Oakley put together an effective start in the series finale as he allowed just two runs on four hits in five innings of work. The Jags scored a run in the bottom of the second inning and that is where the score remained through five innings.
In the sixth Augusta added to its 1-0 lead. A lead-off double chased Oakley from the game while Kyle Lodise later clubbed a two-run homerun in the frame.
Bryce Zupan led off the seventh with a double and came around to score on
Cade Gudalis' sacrifice fly. Any threat of a late inning rally was then extinguished as Moore struck-out to end the game.
Oakley struck-out five in the 3-1 loss.
The Panthers will return home on Friday to host the University of Missouri St. Louis. First pitch at Panther Park is scheduled for 12PM.
