Box Score Columbus, OH – The Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Basketball team (14-4, GMAC 9-3) took down the Panthers of Ohio Dominican (6-14, GMAC 3-9) 81-49 in dominant fashion on Thursday evening.
Wesleyan wasted no time on the offensive end, as
Corina Conley scored a bucket off an assist from
Shaylee McDonald just seven seconds into the game.
Sydnee Richetto grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in to give her ten early points with 3:33 remaining in the opening quarter. KWC led 23-12 heading into the second.
A back-and-forth second quarter saw the purple and white Panthers barely edge ODU 17-14. Consecutive steals by
Shiya Hoosier led to four points on the other end with around seven minutes left. Ohio Dominican immediately responded by scoring five straight points from the free throw line. McDonald dished out her fifth assist of the half off a feed to
Jordyn Barga which led Wesleyan to a 14-point halftime lead.
A sloppy start to the second half for both squads led to KWC scoring only four points in the first five minutes of play. Hoosier heaved one down like a quarterback and found Conley on the receiving end for an easy layup, capping off a 9-0 run to finish the quarter.
The floodgates opened at the beginning of the fourth, as McDonald and Conley led a 10-1 run in the first three minutes of the period.
Myah Montgomery scored five quick points as Wesleyan continued to lay it on. Freshman
Jazmin Torres converted an and-one at the charity stripe, making it a 34-point game with 1:13 left.
Conley led all scorers with 13 points and 7 rebounds. McDonald stuffed the stat sheet tonight, finishing with 12 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Montgomery and Richetto also added 12. Hoosier recorded 8 points as well as 5 assists and 4 steals.
Wesleyan will make a short trip over to Canton, Ohio to take on Malone University on Saturday at 12 p.m.
