Cade Johnson Places while Panthers Compete at the King Open

BRISTOL, TN. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team continued its season at the King Open on Sunday. The Panthers sent a full roster to Bristol with Cade Johnson solidifying an eighth-place finish before reaching his maximum number of matches for the day. 
 
Johnson led the Panthers with a 4-2 record at 157-pounds. Johnson lost his first match of the day, but marched through the consolation rounds. Johnson won the next four matches, two by major decision and one by tech fall. His lone decision came in the consolation third round over Ben Tarrago 9-3. Johnson forfeited his final match, which would have been his sixth of the day. 
 
Matthew Velasco also had a good day at 141-pounds, winning his first match by technical fall, 16-1. With a second-round loss, Velasco moved into the consolation bracket winning his next two matches before bowing out in the consolation fourth round. Velasco finished 3-2 on the day. 
 
Other notable performances came from Drayden McKerrow at 184-pounds and Gavyn Uribes at heavyweight. Both finished the King Open with a 2-2 record. Uribes' recorded two pins on the day. 
 
The Panthers will travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday for the Jim Koch Open. Competition at the De Simone Arena is scheduled for 9AM.
