Panthers Fall To #2 Ashland

OWENSBORO, KY – The Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Basketball team (9-3, GMAC 4-2) fell to #2 Ashland (12-1, GMAC 5-0) 65-47 on Saturday afternoon. Jordyn Barga continued her dominance, once again recording a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

After a slow start, Barga knocked down a triple to make it 9-5 Eagles with 5:47 left in the opening quarter. Ashland responded with a 12-0 run that was eventually extinguished by back-to-back threes from Shiya Hoosier and Shaylee McDonald. Ashland led 24-11 at the end of the first.

Sophomore forward Myah Montgomery came alive in the second, scoring seven points in the quarter alone. Sydnee Richetto's three-pointer capped off a quick 8-0 run by the Panthers late in the period to bring the Eagles' lead to 12. Despite shooting merely under 30% from the field in the first half, Wesleyan found a way to will themselves back in it before halftime.

Barga got the Panthers going out of the locker room as she led the Panthers on a 7-0 run to begin the second half, which cut the deficit to just eight points. The Eagles responded once again, going on a 10-0 run of their own. Ashland led 55-39 entering the final quarter.

Barga added four more in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles continued to pull away. McDonald had another strong showing, adding 11 points and six assists.

The Panthers will be back at it next Thursday, January 11th at home against Northwood at 5:30 p.m.
