Panthers Sixth at G-MAC Championship, Gabe Adams Places Third

TIFFIN, OH – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team finished sixth at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday. The Panthers' day was highlighted by Gabe Adams who reached the podium with a third place finish. Matthew Velasco battled through the consolation bracket to place fourth overall.
 
Wesleyan struggled in the opening round, but found success later in the day. Adams lost his opening 141-pound match, but after a bye in the consolation round he picked-up a 14-8 decision over Ashland's Jeremiah McKee. Adams finished the day with a 14-1 major decision over Hunter Isaacs from Thomas More in the third-place match.
 
Velasco had a busy day at 133-pounds. After moving into the consolation bracket. Velasco pinned Brenden Hamilton from Lake Erie to get to the consolation semifinals. In a thrilling match that was tied at 7-7 at the end of regulation, Velasco scored an early take-down in the overtime period to give him a 10-7 sudden victory and a spot in the third-place match. Velasco eventually fell to Maximus Shore to place fourth.
 
Drayden McKerrow finished 2-2 on the day as he dropped down to 184-pound weight class. McKerrow won back-to-back matches after moving to the consolation rounds. In the consolation semi-finals, McKerrow lost 6-0 to Lucas Salmon from Tiffin. At heavyweight, Kelton Farmer picked-up a pin in the consolation round over Chase Emmert from Thomas More.
 
Ashland won the team title narrowly over Tiffin. Lake Erie and Findlay finished third and fourth respectively.
 
The Panthers will travel to Indianapolis on Saturday to compete in the Greyhound Duals. The event is followed by the Greyhound Open on Sunday. Competition on Saturday will being at the University of Indianapolis at 1 PM CT.
