Panthers Extinguish The Dragons

TIFFIN, OH – The Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Basketball team (11-3, GMAC 6-2) traveled to Tiffin, Ohio on Thursday and dismantled the Dragons (4-12, GMAC 2-6) 84-46. The Panthers' defense set up their offense in this one as they recorded 19 fastbreak points and 38 points off turnovers.

The Panthers came out of the locker room on FIRE. Seven early points scored by Sydnee Richetto gave Wesleyan a 21-7 lead in the first quarter.

The Panthers did not slow down in the second, as Emmy Ralph's layup with 8:49 left in the period gave her seven points as well. Moments later, Corina Conley sunk a three-pointer, then got three points the old-fashioned way on the very next possession, converting an and-one. Sophomore Myah Montgomery then went on an individual eight-point swing of her own. Shaylee McDonald scored five quick points before freshman Mattie Clanton drilled a triple to give Wesleyan a whopping 31-point lead at the break.

The Dragons responded in the third period, outscoring the Panthers by one, 17-16. Five of the first six shots made in the second half were three-pointers, two coming out of the hands of Jordyn Barga and Ralph. The Panther defense was still strapped up though, as Ralph pickpocketed one of Tiffin's ballhandlers before dumping it off to Shiya Hoosier for the layup. Conley then swatted away a Dragons' shot attempt on the very next possession.

The Panthers continued their hot shooting throughout the final quarter, as Ralph and Barga nailed a pair a triples before Montgomery and Shaylee McDonald did the same just a couple minutes later. Montgomery's bucket with 1:50 remaining in the contest gave KWC their biggest lead of the night, 43 points.

An all-around impressive night on both ends for Wesleyan saw four players score in double-digits. KWC was led by Ralph with 22 points, as well as Montgomery (13), McDonald (12), and Barga (10). Barga filled out an impressive statline with seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Ralph and Montgomery combined to go 7/11 from downtown.

The Wesleyan Women's team will now make the trip up to Hillsdale, Michigan to take on the Chargers at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 20th.
