WARRENSBURG, MO. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team was back in action on Sunday at the Roger Denker Open hosted by the University of Central Missouri. Heavyweight
Kelton Farmer finished fourth in the event loaded with strong competition from across the Midwest, including NCAA Division I and II.
Kelton Farmer continues to progress since the end of football season in November. Farmer opened the day with a pin in just over two minutes over Dawson Rull from Central Missouri. He was bounced into the consolation bracket after a lost to Missouri's Jarrett Stoner. Framer advanced into the consolation semifinals after a decision over teammate
Robert Ward and Quincy's Caleb Groff.
Farmer then faced Ryder Wiese from Oklahoma University where he picked-up an 8-1 decision. In the third-place match Torin Forsyth defeated Farmer in a 5-1 decision. Farmer finished 4-2 on the day with two pins.
Gabe Adams,
Matthew Velasco, and
Dalen Kimble all finished the day 2-2. Velasco started the day with a tech fall, 19-3, over Cayden Dotson of Central Missouri. Missouri's 133-pounder, Drew Stanfield, defeated Velasco in the quarterfinals. Velasco bounced back in the consolation round by pinning Victor Salazar from Quincy. Hayden Mills from Nebraska ended Velasco's open in the consolation third round.
Adams picked-up a decision and major decision en route to a 2-2 finish at 141 pounds. Seeing his first action in nearly a year, Kimble returned to the mat and opened his day at 149 pounds with a thrilling 2-0 decision over Brock Donnelly of Central Missouri. Later in the consolation bracket, Kimble recorded a pin over Lucas Clement of Central Missouri.
Cade Johnson recorded a pin at 157 pounds while
Bryson Rowley earned a decision at 125 pounds. The Panthers will have a quick turnaround as they will travel to Campbellsville Kentucky on Wednesday for a pair of duals. Wesleyan will match-up against Campbellsville and Cumberland in the final tune-up for the Great Midwest Conference Championship.
