OWENSBORO, KY - It may be getting colder outside, but inside the Owensboro Sportscenter Thursday night the Panthers were red hot, shooting a phenomenal 63.1% from the field and 63.6% from behind the arc en-route to a 112-74 blowout victory over the Northwood Timberwolves. The Panther's literally almost never missed from three in the first half, going 10-11 (90.91%) from behind the arc, thanks in part to a 5-6 clip from
Logan McIntire
The 112 points is the most a Panther team has scored in a game since they hung 134 on Salem back in 2017.
With the win Wesleyan now sits at 10-4 (5-2 G-MAC), while Northwood drops to 3-12 (0-6 G-MAC).
Edward Jones Jr. started the game with a bang, nearly bringing down the rim with a poster jam just 10 seconds in. Northwood's Collin Albert responded with a three on the next possession, but
NaVuan Peterson quickly got the lead back with an offensive rebound putback. The floodgates opened from there, as the Panthers used multiple threes from
Kaeveon Mitchell, Peterson, and
Logan McIntire to extend their lead to 19-10 just six minutes into the contest. The Panthers kept finding McIntire's hot hand, and his back-to-back threes with 6:25 remaining in the half forced a Timberwolves'Â timeout and put Wesleyan ahead 44-27. Everyone got in on the scoring frenzy late in the half, as
Aleksa Rakic knocked down a three, and Jones Jr. scored seven late points, including a lob right near the buzzer, to give the Panthers a big 64-41 halftime lead.Â
You couldn't script a better half for the Panthers, as they went 25-35 (71.43%) from the field and 10-11 (90.91%) from three in the frame.Â
The second half was controlled by the Panthers, as after an early back-and-forth battle, Wesleyan took a 29-point lead thanks to a pull up jumper from
Kennedy Miles. A few strong buckets from
Borja Fernandez helped extend the lead, and Wesleyan started emptying the bench with around seven minutes remaining in the ballgame. Coming off the bench hot was
Gavin Reed, who has proven he can be a strong guard for this team in the future. In just six minutes of playing time, Reed went 3-4 from behind the arc and 2-2 from the free throw line, giving him a big career high of 11 points. Big man
Fares Remouche also got in on the action, backing down his defender for a strong layup late.Â
In addition to their incredible shooting, the Panthers also dished out 29 assists on their 41 made field goals, good for a tie for eighth all-time in a single game in Kentucky Wesleyan history. Also in eighth place was their three point shooting, as their 63.6% mark is the team's highest since they shot 64.7% against Ohio Valley in 2017.Â
It was a balanced scoring effort from the team, as six players finished in double figures. Led by
Logan McIntire's 21,
Edward Jones Jr. (18),
Borja Fernandez (16),
NaVuan Peterson (15),
Kennedy Miles (11), and
Gavin Reed (11) all reached double digits. Peterson flirted with a triple double in the game, grabbing a team-high eight boards and dishing out six assists. Nearly matching him in those categories was do-it-all guard
Alex Gray, who finished with a statline of seven rebounds, six assists, two points, and a steal.Â
Wesleyan's season continues this Saturday when they host the Delta State Statesman at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
