Baseball drops G-MAC tournament opener to #1 seeded Northwood

MASON, OH - The Kentucky Wesleyan baseball team dropped their opener 8-3 against #1 seeded Northwood on Wednesday.

Northwood struck first in the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first to go up 2-0 early. The Panthers answered in the top of the third, as Cameron Langston opened up the inning with a double and was immediately brought home on a Sammy Rowan single to right field. After an Aric Lyons single and two steals, Rowan took advantage and scored on a wild pitch to make it a tie game. Kyle Werries then gave Wesleyan the lead on a groundout RBI, scoring Lyons.

The Panther bats fell quiet after that third inning, as they only recorded one more hit the entire game. Northwood tied it up in the fourth, and grabbed the win thanks to five runs over the final two innings of play.

Brandon Valdez went 2-for-4, while Sammy Rowan went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Despite the loss, Seth Wright (2-5) pitched very well, striking out five and allowing just four runs in six innings of work.

The Panthers will now move to the consolation bracket where they will take on the Findlay Oilers. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET from Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
