NASHVILLE, TN - Facing the top team in the G-MAC South Division, the Kentucky Wesleyan Baseball team earned a split, falling 5-3 in game one before winning 5-0 in game two behind a dominant pitching performance from
Evan Oakley.
Trevecca Nazarene now sits at 14-14 (9-5 G-MAC) while Kentucky Wesleyan is 11-19 (6-8 G-MAC).
Game One
Things were looking good early for the Panthers, as they held a 2-0 lead throughout the beginning portions of the game.
Kyle Werries hit an RBI double in the first to score
Brandon Valdez, and
Bryce Zupan took advantage of a throwing error in the second scramble home and double up the Panther's lead.
Trevecca Nazarene hit a grand slam in the fourth to take the lead, and added one more insurance run in the eighth.
Kyle Werries knocked in
Cameron Langston in the top of the ninth for his second RBI of the game, but TNU closed it out to get the win.
Nick Wimber went 2-for-4 in the game, while
Kyle Werries went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's and a walk.
Seth Wright (1-3) struck out seven in the loss.
Game Two
It was the
Evan Oakley (3-3) show in game two, as the freshman allowed just four hits and pitched all seven innings in the shutout victory.
Kyle Werries, who was on fire in game one, kept up his hot streak, opening the scoring up in the third with a two-run shot to make it 2-0 good guys.
Brandon Valdez hit a 2-RBI single to double up the lead in the sixth, while
Aric Lyons hit a sacrifice fly to score
Cameron Langston in the seventh to give Wesleyan their final run of the game.
Kyle Werries went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored, while
Noah Davis had the best game of his Panther career, going 4-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
The Panthers will continue their series with the Trojans tomorrow, taking on Trevecca at 12 and 3 p.m. CT.
