SAINT LEO, FL - The Panthers series opener at Saint Leo didn't quite go as planned, as Wesleyan (4-9) fell 16-3 to the Lions.
Both teams played three scoreless innings before Saint Leo (8-9) broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Braxton French hit a solo shot in the top of the fifth to get a run back, but SLU answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead.
Brandon Valdez used RBI's from French and
Kyle Werries to score runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but Saint Leo pulled away with nine runs over the final two innings.
Kentucky Wesleyan was led at the plate by
Braxton French, who went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored.
Brandon Valdez had a nice showing as well, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Nick Judd (1-2) struck out two in the loss.
Kentucky Wesleyan will look to avenge this loss today when they take on the Lions in a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. CT.
