OWENSBORO, KY - A strong second half from the Tiffin Dragons propelled them past the Panthers on Thursday. Wesleyan led 27-26 at the half before the Dragons came storming back to take the 75-63 victory.
Wesleyan falls to 11-12 (7-8 G-MAC) while Tiffin improves to 10-13 (7-8 G-MAC).
Tiffin led 11-7 before Wesleyan used layups from
Ben Sisson and Broja Fernandez, as well as a three from
Antonio Thomas to take a 14-11 lead midway through the opening half. Down 25-23,
JoMel Boyd put in a layup and
Edward Jones Jr. stole the Dragon's inbound pass and put in a layup at the buzzer to give Wesleyan a 27-26 lead at the break.
The Dragons opened the second half on a 24-9 run, eventually taking a 50-36 lead with 10:01 remaining in the game. Tiffin continued to push, extending their lead to 18 with five minutes to go. Wesleyan began to chip away, cutting the Tiffin lead to 69-62 thanks to come clutch buckets from
Jordan Roland. That's where the Panthers stalled, as they missed a few threes and Tiffin hit their free throws to close out the win.
The Panthers struggled from the field in the loss, going just 22-62 (35.5%) from the field and 7-28 (25%) from three. Tiffin on the other hand shot 25-55 (45.5%) from the floor and 5-14 (35.7%) from behind the arc.
Jordan Roland led the way with 17 points, followed by
Ben Sisson with 10. Sisson and
Edward Jones Jr. each tallied nine rebounds.
Antonio Thomas dished out four assists while
Borja Fernandez notched two steals.
Wesleyan will have a chance to get back to .500 on Saturday when they host Findlay. Tipoff is set for 2:15 p.m. CT.
