Panthers Split Saturday Double-Header with Bulldogs

MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team picked-up a win on Saturday against Truman State. The Panthers lost the day's opener at USA Stadium 8-3, but picked-up a 5-4 victory in the night-cap.

Nick Judd made his second appearance of the season on Saturday, completing four innings. The Bulldogs (2-1) scored four times in the opening frame and that proved to be enough to take down Wesleyan.

The Panthers (1-5) scored their first run of the contest in bottom of the fifth as Zach Curtis led off the inning with a solo homerun. Curtis drove-in two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as he popped a double into centerfield, scoring Sammy Rowan and Aric Lyons

Curtis finished the game two for three with a double, homerun and three RBIs.

Evan Oakley got the start in game two as he competed 4.2 innings allowing four runs, one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts. Oakley trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning when Rowan and Lyons led-off with back-to-back singles. After a pop-out, Jaret Humphrey gave the Panthers the lead with a three-run homerun.

The Bulldogs chased Oakley from the game in the fifth as they answered with three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Seth Wright finished the fifth and pitched a scoreless sixth, allowing the Panthers to tie the game. Curtis continued his big day at the plate as he tied the game with a solo shot over the left-field fence.

After a scoreless seventh the game moved to extras. In the bottom of the eighth, Lyons led-off with a double. With one-out Humphrey was intentionally walked to get to Curtis, who ended the game with sharply hit groundball that was mishandled, allowing Lyons to come around and score.

Lyons finished the game three for four with a double. Wright picked-up the win by completing the final 3.1 innings allowing no runs on one hit with four strikeouts.

The Panthers end the four-game series with Truman State on Sunday. First pitch at USA Stadium is scheduled for 11 AM CT.
