Panthers thump Thorobreds

FRANKFORT, KY – The Kentucky Wesleyan Women's Basketball team will be heading into the Thanksgiving break in style, as they took down Kentucky State 95-51 on Wednesday afternoon. Four Panthers scored in double-figures, led by an incredible 21-point, seven assist, and three steal performance from Emmy Ralph.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan improves to 3-1 (0-0 G-MAC), while the Thorobreds fall to 2-1 (0-0 SIAC).
 
The contest was close early, as Wesleyan led by just one (16-15) with 3:23 remaining in the first quarter. A Shiya Hoosier three and a Corina Conley layup ignited an 11-4 run by the Panthers, who led 27-19 after one.
 
The threes were falling in the second quarter for the Panthers, as they hit five in the frame, with two coming from both Corina Conley and Myah Montgomery. Up by 14 late, the Panthers held KSU scoreless for the final 3:40 of the half, giving the visitors a big 51-27 lead at the break.
 
Wesleyan didn't let up in the second half, as back-to-back-to-back threes from Hoosier, Sydnee Richetto, and Emmy Ralph extended the Panther lead to 32 (66-34) midway through the second half. Wesleyan cruised to the finish from there, taking this one by 44.
 
Emmy Ralph led the way with 21 points, followed by Corina Conley (18), Shiya Hoosier (13), and Myah Montgomery (13). Conley notched a double-double as she led with 11 rebounds, while Ralph's seven assists are the most for a Panther this season. Conley led with four steals in the contest, followed closely behind by Ralph and Shaylee McDonald with three.
 
The Panthers shot 33-71 (46.5%) from the floor and hit an impressive 16 threes in the game. They held the home side to just 22-52 (42.3%) from the floor and a 3-16 (18.8%) from three. Wesleyan forced 23 Thorobred turnovers, while committing just nine of their own.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan will be back in action next week Monday when they host the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars. UIS is currently 3-0, and has an exhibition win over DI Indiana State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
