OWENSBORO, KY - The Kentucky Wesleyan Volleyball team continues to battle, but they just can't seem to get over that hump as the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans took down the Panthers 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) in Jones Gym on Wednesday night.
TNU improves to 7-11 (4-5 G-MAC) while KWC falls to 2-14 (1-7 G-MAC).
Tied a 4-4 early in the opening set, Trevecca Nazarene went on a 5-1 run that gave them a 9-5 lead. That lead would hold for the rest of the set, as, despite multiple charges from the Panthers, the Trojans managed to hold on to win 25-21.
The second set was even closer, with the teams going back-and-forth throughout. Late in the set, Wesleyan though they had tied things up at 21-21, but an block was overturned to a blocking error, killing the Panthers momentum and giving Trevecca a 22-20 lead. A late kill from
Nicole Hughes wasn't enough as TNU won 25-21.
The Panthers controlled much of the third set, eventually using kills from Hughes,
Mariah Jones, and an ace from
Ava Rebarchik to take a late 18-13 lead. Trevecca battled back, eventually tying it up at 20 all. Hughes gave the Panthers the lead with another kill, but the Trojans rattled off four straight points to give them a 24-21 lead. Two points later the Trojans had sealed the win.
Nicole Hughes led the way with nine kills on the night, which were helped out by
Julia Kupper's team high 23 assists.
Ava Rebarchik led with four blocks at the net, while
Embry Burgess continued her strong defensive season with 13 digs.
The Panthers continue their home stand on Friday when they host the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. First serve is set for 7 p.m. CT.
