FINDLAY, OH - It was the tale of two halves on Thursday, as after leading by three at the break, the Kentucky Wesleyan Men's Basketball team failed to find their shooting touch in the second half, and were outscored by eight in the final 20 minutes to fall 78-73 at Findlay on Thursday night.
Findlay improes to 9-6 (4-3 G-MAC), while Wesleyan falls to 7-8 (3-4 G-MAC).
The Oilers jumped on the Panthers early, going up 14-4 seven minutes into the game. Wesleyan came storming back quickly, as
Kennedy Miles and
JoMel Boyd hit threes on three straight possessions to cut the lead down to just one. The teams went back-and-forth over the next few minutes, before
Edward Jones Jr. gave Wesleyan a 21-19 lead with 7:31 left in the half, KWC's first lead of the game. An
Antonio Thomas three with just under five minutes to go gave Wesleyan a 26-25 lead, and they would hold a lead until the break. KWC extended their lead to as much as seven on a
Markel Aune jumper, but Findlay hit a three with 45 seconds remaining and Wesleyan went into halftime hodling a 41-38 advantage.Â
The Panthers continued to press in the second half, as
Borja Fernandez hit a three, and
Ben Sisson knocked in a free throw to give the Panthers a 50-43 lead with 15:51 remaining in the game. Findlay re-took the lead a few minutes later, but Wesleyan got it right back thanks to another Boyd trey. Findlay used a putback dunk to get the energy back in the gym, and held a 73-72 lead over the Panthers with 1:47 remaining in the game. The Oilers then hit a layup, forced a Wesleyan turnover, and made their free throws in to clinch the five-point victory.Â
Wesleyan shot a solid 31-61 (50.8%) from the field, but just 7-21 (33.3%) from behind the arc. Findlay shot 27-54 (50%) from the field and 8-15 (53.3%) from three. Free throws were the difference in the game, as Findlay hit 16 of their 20 attempts, while the Panthers only managed to get to the line eight times, hitting just four of their attempts.Â
Markel Aune and
JoMel Boyd each finished with a team leading 15 points.
Ben Sisson notched his second straight double-double, going for 12 points and 10 boards, including a season high eight offensive rebounds.
Kennedy Miles led with four assists while Sisson also added four steals.Â
Wesleyan will look to get back to .500 in conference play with a trip to Tiffin on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.
