A Historic Night

OWENSBORO, KY. – It was a historical night inside Jones Gymnasium as the Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team gave Interim Head Coach Alejandra Jimenez her first career win. Behind 14 kills from Madelyn Hoskins, the Panthers won a dramatic five set contest over Lake Erie College, recording their first Great Midwest win of the season.
 
The Panthers (3-13, 1-7 GMAC) hit .269 in the opening set to earn a 25-23 victory. Wesleyan showed a resilient effort as they trailed 20-18 late in the set, but back-to-back kills from Diana Wesolosky and Ava Rebarchik tied the set. After a Storm error and then an ace from Karrah Cron, the Panthers moved in front 22-20. The Storm (2-13, 0-8 GMAC) rallied to tie the set again, this time at 23, but the Panther won the final two points to come away with the early lead.
 
The Storm rebounded in the second set to even the match after a 25-16 win of set. Lake Erie held a .321 attacking percentage, recording 14 kills against five errors. The Panthers provided an answer in the pivotal third set, winning 25-18. Wesleyan pulled away with a run where they won seven of eight points, taking a 21-12 lead.
 
The wave of momentum continued in the fourth set as the Panthers held a 24-18 lead. Looking to close out the match, the Storm provided a remarkable comeback by winning long rallies. Lake Erie won seven straight points, taking a 25-24 lead. The Storm would eventually complete the comeback winning the set 29-27.
 
The Panthers raced out to 8-4 lead in the final set, seizing the momentum and the match. Wesleyan won the final set 15-11. Hoskins held a .344 attacking percentage to go along with her 14 kills. Wesolosky added 11 kills and eight digs while Rebarchik finished with eight kills and seven block assists. Cron dished out 24 assists on the night.
