NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team put together a stellar defensive match on Wednesday evening against their Great Midwest rival Trevecca Nazarene. The Panthers pushed the Trojans to the brink, but two second half goals propelled TNU to a 2-0 result.
The Trojans (5-2-1, 3-1 GMAC) took nine shots in the opening period, three on goal. All three attempts to score came in the first 20 minutes of the match.
Elizabeth Burns made the start in between the pipes for the Panthers and made three saves in the first 45 minutes to preserve the shut-out.
Chloe Hinchcliffe attempted to break the tie in the 28
th minute, but TNU keeper Delayna Holman made the save. The Panthers (1-6, 0-4 GMAC) took two shots on goal in the opening period, but Holman made both saves.
The Panthers came out aggressively in the second half as
Chloe Hinchcliffe saw her shot in the 53rd minute saved in the bottom corner of the net. Five minutes later, the Trojans had the lead on Ryann Anderson's goal. Wesleyan had two chances to tie the match thereafter, but both shots missed. TNU added insurance in the 83
rd minute with a second goal, closing out the Panthers 2-0.
Chloe Hinchcliffe finished the match with four shots, three on goal. Burns made 10 saves.
The Panthers will host Malone on Saturday afternoon. The match at Panther Field is scheduled for 1 PM.
