ARKADELPHIA, AR - After dropping their first game of the day 3-0 to Quincy (1-0), the Panthers (1-1) bounced back with a big 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-17) victory over Henderson State (1-1) on Friday afternoon.
Game One
The Panthers couldn't quite get things going against the Hawks of Quincy, falling in three sets 25-10, 25-11, 25-16.
Diana Wesolosky led with seven kills, while
Karrah Cron nabbed 13 assists. Newcomer
Mariah Jones proved why she is a force to be reckoned with at the net with three big blocks.
Game Two
Down 12-10 in the opening set, the Panthers used the momentum off of three service aces from
Ava Rebarchik to turn that 2-point deficit into a 17-12 advantage. The Reddies cut it close, but KWC closed it out thanks to a kill from Rebarchik and an error by HSU.
After falling behind again in the second set, the Panthers took advantage of five Henderson State errors to score nine straight points and go up 15-10.
Diana Wesolosky closed the set out with a big kill and the Panthers took a 2-0 lead.
Unlike the opening two sets, the Panthers went up big in set three, using kills from Rebarchik and
Madelyn Hoskins, and two aces from
Danielle Nelson to quickly go up 11-2. KWC wouldn't relinquish their lead and took set three 25-17.
Ava Rebarchik led the Panthers will 10 kills, while
Diana Wesolosky (9) and
Mariah Jones (6) followed close behind.
Mariah Jones tallied an impressive five blocks, while
Karrah Cron notched a team leading 26 assists and 14 digs.
The Panthers will be right back at it tomorrow when they take on LeMoyne-Owen at 9 AM CT and Arkansas-Fort Smith at 1:30 PM CT.
