OWENSBORO, KY - Facing the #3 seeded Trevecca Nazarene Trojans in the first round of the G-MAC tournament, the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers went off, taking down their southern foes by a score of 14-2.
Kyle Werries was huge for the good guys, hitting a three-run shot in the 1st inning and a grand slam in the 4th to power the Panthers to victory.
Hunter Combs got things started with an RBI to score
Robert Chayka in the 1st inning, which was then followed by the Werries blast to make it a 4-0 game after one.
Up 4-2 after three innings, the Panthers took control in the 4th, scoring seven runs in the inning to essentially put the game away. Combs hit another RBI single before the grand slam from Werries blew the game open for the Panthers.
Jaret Humphrey then hit an RBI double to score
Sammy Rowan and Humphrey closed out the inning by scoring on a TNU throwing error.Â
Sammy Rowan accounted for the Panther's final three runs of the game, as he hit a two-run shot in the 5th and scored on an error in the 7th.Â
Seth Wright (6-4) was nearly untouchable for the Panthers, pitching a complete game while allowing just two runs on three hits and striking out four in the process.
Kyle Werries went 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 7 RBI's,
Jaret Humphrey went 4-for-5 with a run scored, and
Hunter Combs went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's and three runs scored.Â
Wesleyan advances to the winners side of the bracket and will face the Ashland Eagles, who took down Cedarville 13-6, tomorrow night at 5 p.m. CT at Prasco Park.Â
