INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team returned to the diamond on Tuesday for a midweek clash with former Great Lakes Valley Conference foe, the University of Indianapolis. The Panthers swept the Hounds earlier this season at Panther Park, but on Tuesday the Hounds extracted some revenge with a two-game sweep.
The Greyhounds (15-17) took the days opener 15-1. A five-run fifth inning established an 8-0 lead for UIndy and they never looked back. Kyler Werries was two for three with a double while
Jaret Humphrey was one for three with an RBI double.
The Panthers (11-21) trailed 4-1 after three innings of game two, but took control in the top of the fourth inning. Werries led-off with a single, followed by Humphrey getting hit.
Sammy Rowan recorded the first big knock of the frame with an RBI double. After a pitching change,
Kyle Richardson walked while
Landon Moberly drove-in another run with a sacrifice fly.
Ben Wilcoxson ended the scoring in the frame with two-run single, giving the Panthers a 5-4 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth the Hounds manufactured a run to tie the game. Wesleyan answered in the top of the sixth as an error and ground-out allowed two runs to score. The Panthers left the bases loaded in the frame while the Greyhounds loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning. UIndy scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth and worked around a Panther threat in the top of the seventh to hold onto a 11-7 victory.
The Panthers will return home to open a four-game set against G-MAC rival Malone on Friday. First pitch at Panther Park is scheduled for 12 PM.
