Lions Take Two From Panthers

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla.Robert Chayka continued his hot start for the Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team, but the Panthers suffer two defeats at Saint Leo University on Friday afternoon. The Panthers fell 4-2 in the day's opener and 16-4 in the finale.

The Lions (11-7) picked-up a run in the second and two in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Facing SLU's top starter, Jared Beck, a seven-foot left-handed pitcher, Chayka got the Panthers (0-11) on the board in the top of the fourth. Chayka blasted his second homerun of the series, a solo shot with one-out.

The Lions answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch. Beck finished his day with 14 strikeouts, but could not get Chayka out as the Panthers centerfielder hit his second homerun of the day to lead off the seventh inning.

Brayden Bush also pitched a complete game, allowing four runs, three earned on eight hits with five strikeouts.

The Lions stole a run in the first inning of game two, but the Panthers tied the game in the top of the fourth. Kyle Richardson led of the frame with a double and came around to score on Cade Gudalis' RBI double. SLU scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning and got into the Panthers' bullpen.

Trailing 6-1, Chayka led off the top of the fifth with a homerun, his fourth of the series and third of the day. Wesleyan added a run later in the frame to cut into the lead, 6-3. The Lions busted the game open with four runs in the fifth and seventh innings, building a 14-3 cushion.
