OWENSBORO, KY - Playing in much milder conditions compared to this past weekend in Cedarville, the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers swept the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds 8-2 and 4-1 on Thursday afternoon.
Kentucky Wesleyan moves to 8-18 (6-6 G-MAC) while the Greyhounds sit at 7-13 (2-2 GLVC).
Game One
Fueled by a big five-run first inning, the Panthers took down Indianapolis 8-2 in game one.
Robert Chayka took advantage of multiple Greyhound miscues early, reaching on a throwing error before advancing to third on two straight wild pitches.
Ben Wilcoxson then hit an RBI single to bring Chayka home. RBI's by
Jaret Humphrey and
Cade Gudalis later in the inning made it a 5-0 game after one.
Humphrey recorded his third RBI of the game on a double to right center in the bottom of the fifth inning to score
Kyle Werries and make it a 6-2 game.
Wesleyan scored their final two runs of the game thanks to a wild pitch and
Reece Puckett hit by pitch.
Jaret Humphrey led the way for the Panthers by going 2-for-4 with 1 run scored and 3 RBI's.Â
Coy Burns (1-0) struck out five in four innings of work and came away with the win.
Gavin Simpkins (S,1) picked up his first save of the year by allowing just one hit over the final three innings of play.
Game Two
After both teams went hitless in the first 2.5 innings of game two, Kentucky Wesleyan got on the board first with a
Kyle Richardson RBI to score
Ben Wilcoxson. A few batters later, a throwing error by the third baseman allowed Richardson to run home and make it 2-0 after three. KWC used a 2 RBI single from
Kyle Richardson in the fourth to tack on two insurance runs and wound-up winning the game 4-1.
Isaac Rose (1-0) pitched four innings of hitless work to get the win.
Ike Speiser (S, 1) struck out one in the final inning of play to earn his first save of the season. As a team, the Panthers pitching staff allowed just two hits in the game.
Kentucky Wesleyan will travel to Ohio Dominican on Friday/Saturday of this week for some G-MAC action. First pitch on Friday is set for 12 p.m .CT while Saturday's games are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. CT.
