Panthers Split Day One in Sunshine State

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team picked-up a 7-1 victory on Tuesday morning in their first game of Spring Break. The Panthers got a sparkling pitching performance from Mary Morgan to lead-off the trip with a win. Wesleyan dropped game two of the day to Nova Southeastern.

As the lone game at DiamondPlex on Tuesday morning, the Panthers (3-15) opened the bottom of the first inning with a manufactured run. Calysta Crum brought in Hannah Scheberle with a sacrifice fly. Wesleyan added two more runs in the third inning. Crum struck again, this time with two outs, hitting a double to the centerfield fence.

In the fourth, Fairmont State (1-4) loaded the bases, but could only scratch across one run. The Panthers then busted the game open in the bottom half. Lacie Mills started the scoring with a one-out RBI single into left. After a single from Cameron Hamilton, the bases were loaded for Scheberle who added another run to the board with a sacrifice fly.

Crum came back to the plate in the fourth, this time with the bases loaded. She connected on the biggest blow of the game, a three-run double into the left-centerfield gap. The Panthers and Mary Morgan held a commanding 7-1 lead through the duration of the contest.

Morgan picked-up her third win of the season with another complete game. She allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts. Scheberle, Crum, and Grace Scott each collected two hits in the game.

Nova (7-7) scored two in the first and four in the second using their speed to take down the Panthers in game two. Ashley Conner pitched a gem, allowing just one hit on the day.

The Panthers will step away from the Spring Games for one day on Wednesday as they will be in Wesley Chapel for two games against Saint Leo University. First pitch is scheduled for 4PM.
