KENOSHA, Wis. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team opened its season with a 73-59 loss to the University of Wisconsin Parkside on Friday night. The Rangers built a lead as large as 18 points in the second half to gain enough separation from the Panthers down the stretch.
A slow start by both teams led to the Panthers (0-1) taking a 26-21 lead with six minutes left in the first half.
Antonio Thomas converted a three-point play to build the Panthers' largest lead of the game. The Rangers (1-0) responded and took a 38-30 lead into the locker-room.
Ben Sisson recorded to early buckets to start the second half, but the Panthers offense went quiet for over five minutes. The scoring drought allowed the Rangers to establish a 52-34 lead.
Kennedy Miles nailed a three-point basket with 12:38 left in the contest to end the Parkside run.
The Rangers managed to hold a double-digit lead the rest of the night. Miles finished with 12 points on five of seven shooting from the field.
Jordan Roland added 10 points.
JoMel Boyd scored seven points and pulled-in 11 rebounds.
Wesleyan will have a quick turnaround as they will play Illinois Springfield tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off at De Simone Gymnasium is scheduled for 5 PM.
