EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team returned to the diamond on Friday in the Midwest Crossover at Deaconess Park. The Panthers lost their opener 12-3 to Davenport and fell to No. 21 Grand Valley 8-0 in the day's finale.
The Panthers (1-7) started the game against Davenport in routine fashion.
Evyn Hendrickson struck-out the first three batters of the game while Kaitlyn Lasala got things going in the top of the second with a one-out double. An error allowed runners on first and third for
Grace Scott who gave the Panthers a quick 3-0 after a three-run homerun over the centerfield fence.
Davenport took advantage of a pair of two-out walks in the bottom of the third to score twice and narrow the game 3-2. They added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back homeruns to take a 5-3 lead.
The game ended after Davenport added two runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth.
In the second game the Lakers (4-1) scored two in the first and three in the third en route to 8-0 victory.
Grace Scott pitched five innings, allowing five runs, three earned on six hits with two strikeouts.
The Panthers will continue the Crossover on Saturday with two more games. Wesleyan will play Purdue Northwest and Davenport. First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM CT.
