OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 77-72 win over Ursuline College on Saturday to complete the season sweep over the Arrows.
The win also secured the No. 2 seed for the Panthers in the 2021 G-MAC Tournament. Wesleyan earned hosting rights for the Quarterfinals and will host the No. 7 seed Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday night at The Owensboro Sportscenter. The two teams did not meet in the regular season this year.
On Saturday, the Panthers led by as many as 14 in the first quarter until the Arrows outscored Wesleyan 20-12 in the second frame. Ursuline converted a buzzer-beating lay up to take a 38-37 lead to halftime.
The second half saw the five lead changes and six times a tied score. Neither team led by more than 10 in the final 20 minutes.
The Arrows tied the game at 61 with just over seven minutes remaining before Jordyn Barga converted a three-point play and Cali Nolot knocked down a corner three to give Wesleyan six points in a 40 second span. Ursuline pulled within three at the 5:14 mark but the Panthers held them scoreless for nearly four minutes of action. Wesleyan shot 5-for-8 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to seal the win.
Barga finished with 21 points, falling one short of her career high of 22 at Findlay earlier this season. The sophomore also led the Panthers with three steals.
Nolot also finished in double figures at 18 points followed by Kaylee Clifford at 14. Clifford flirted with a double-double, grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
