Box Score PAINESVILLE, OH - The first half of KWC Football's game against Lake Erie went exactly as planned, as the Panthers went up 28-14 with all the momentum heading into halftime. The second half was one to forget, as Wesleyan failed to score a point and turned the ball over twice en-route to a 38-28 defeat.
With the win the Storm moves to 4-4 (1-3 G-MAC) on the year while the Panthers fall to 3-6 (1-3 G-MAC).
The Panthers opened the first half with a bang, as
Ramond Jackson forced a Lake Erie fumble on their first drive of the game. Just two plays later,
JaKwon Roberts hit
Peyton Peters for a 65 yard touchdown pass to put Kentucky Wesleyan up 7-0 early in the first quarter. Following a Storm touchdown of their own, Roberts hit
Shamar Foster for a 24 yard score to end the first quarter up 14-7.
The third touchdown of the game for the Panthers had
David Florence written all over it. Florence's big punt return put Kentucky Wesleyan in great field position, and he would catch a four yard touchdown pass from
JaKwon Roberts three plays later to put the Panthers up 21-7. With just three seconds left in the half,
JaKwon Roberts used his legs to rush for the 5 yard touchdown, and the Panthers were up 14 going into the break.
The second half opened up poorly for the Panthers, as they would throw an interception on their second play of the half. Wesleyan struggled to find their offense footing for the rest of the half, punting three times and missing two field goal attempts in the frame. Lake Erie kept their foot on the pedal, scoring 24 points in the half to come away with the 10-point victory.
JaKwon Roberts was 21-for-40 with 233 yards, three passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown and and two interceptions.
Deonco Wilkerson led the Panther with 58 rushing yards, and
Peyton Peters led the way with 91 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Devyn Bledsoe led the Panthers with 10 total tackles, followed closely behind by
Jalen Humphrey with nine.
Dalan Cofer and
Jaden Santos-Lopez each tallied a sack on the night.
The Panthers will be back at it again next week when they travel to Hillsdale, Michigan to take on Hillsdale College at 12 p.m. CT.
