FINDLAY, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team opened its season with a 3-0 loss on Friday night to Findlay. The Panthers, one of the top teams in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference a season ago added youth to the roster in 2021. Due to the global pandemic, the G-MAC opted to play fall sports in the second semester.
The Oilers (1-0 GMAC) made good use of their attacks as they held a .214 hitting percentage in the opening set to take the frame 25-13. The Panthers (0-1 GMAC) jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the second set before the Oilers countered by winning 10 of the next 12 points, including six in a row.
After the run was over Findlay seemed to be in control of the set 12-8, but the Panthers edged closer. With three straight points later in the set the Panthers tied frame at 19. However, the Oilers ended the run by winning six of the final seven points.
Alexa Davis produced an ace midway through the third set that gave the Panthers a 14-11 lead. Wesleyan led 15-12 before the Oilers ran-off four straight points to tie the set and take the lead. The third was tied at 18 before Findlay started to pull away, but Davis' kill narrowed the gap to 23-20. Findlay found a way to hang on and complete the sweep after a 25-21 victory in the third.
Lilly Trump finished with seven kills and a team high 10 digs. Davis added six kills, two aces, and one block.
