OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team overcame a 22-point deficit on Thursday night, defeating the University of Findlay 79-67 in G-MAC action at The Sportscenter. The Panthers got revenge after suffering an overtime loss at Findlay earlier this season.
The Oilers held a 22-point lead with 4:40 remaining in the third quarter before Corina Conley put a spark in the Panther offense with three pointer. Wesleyan outscored Findlay 13-3 in the final 4:40 to cut the lead to 12 entering the final frame.
Trailing by 11 at the 7:48 mark, Wesleyan erupted for 11 points in less than a minute to tie the game at 64. Cali Nolot started the run with back-to-back three's before Conley added a three of her own. Nolot forced a turnover in the backcourt, then found Jordyn Barga under the basket for the tying lay up. Wesleyan kept the foot on the gas, resulting in a 20-0 run to give them a 9-point lead with 3:43 remaining.
The Oilers cut the lead to 9 with less than two minutes remaining but Nolot put the game away with her third three of the quarter. Wesleyan outscored the Oilers 31-7 in the final 10 minutes of play.
Of Wesleyan's 81 shots on the night, 55 of them came from beyond the arc, setting a program record for most three pointers attempted in a game. The Panthers also set a season-high of 16 made three point attempts.
The Panthers top four scorers came off the bench in Tahlia Walton (14), Nolot (13), Shiya Hoosier (11) and Conley (11). Barga was the fifth Panther to reach double figures with 10.
Kaylee Clifford led the way with 10 rebounds while Hoosier dished out five assists. Lily Miller, Barga and Hoosier each recorded three steals.
Wesleyan remains home this weekend to host Hillsdale at 12 pm CT on Saturday at The Sportscenter. The Senior class of Kaylee Clifford, Kaylee Willis, Lily Miller and Ja'Lana Scruggs will be celebrated with a pre-game ceremony.
