OWENSBORO, KY. – Behind two strong pitching performances the Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team shut-out Quincy twice on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers posted a 2-0 victory in the opener and a 6-0 win in game two. Both
Evyn Hendrickson and
Bailey Woodall threw complete games at Foster Field, notching their first wins of the season.
Game 1: Quincy – 0, KWC – 2
Hendrickson set the tone early filling the zone with strikes. She faced 23 batters on the day, two over the minimum. The hard-throwing right-hander completed seven innings, allowing just one hit while striking-out nine.
The Panthers (2-8) sat-down the first 15 batters of the game in order while scoring the lone two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Jaylin Tidwell led-off the fourth with a single.
Lexie Mullen followed with another single, a sharply hit liner into center. The ball rolled under the legs of the centerfielder and nearly to the wall, allowing Tidwell to score and Mullen to get to third.
It was one of four errors for the Hawks on the day as the Panthers took advantage.
Madison Scott added an insurance run, scoring Mullen on a ground-out. It was all the run support that Hendrickson needed as only one runner reached second base in the game.
Game 2: Quincy – 0, KWC – 6
The Hawks (1-5) produced another solid pitching performance in the game two, but the Panthers broke the game open in sixth inning. Woodall scattered four hits on the afternoon as she pitched a complete game.
Both games held a quick pace, but things slowed down for the Panthers in the sixth. Tidwell again was the spark of the rally as she led-off the frame with a single. Wesleyan eventually loaded the bases with one-out in the frame.
Abbey Winstead produced a pinch-hit, two-run single down the right-field line.
Terrilynn Summers followed with a double that added another run.
Madison Stumbo kept the line moving with a pinch-hit RBI single to extend the Panthers' lead to 4-0.
Maddie Dawson and Tidwell each drove-in another run in the six-run sixth.
Woodall set the Hawks down in order in the seventh to complete the Saturday sweep. Tidwell finished the game three for four with RBI. Both Scott and
Meryck Hardley recorded two hits on the day.
The Panthers will finish the three-game series on Sunday with one more game against the Hawks. First pitch at Foster Field is scheduled for 11 AM.
