TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team dropped the season finale to No. 8 North Greenville on Saturday afternoon. Lead-off hitter Cody Bridges recorded three hits on the weekend, tying the program record for hits. Bridges now sits at 224 career hits, tying Jordan White (2009-2012).
The Panthers found themselves in an 8-0 deficit entering the fifth after a seven-run fourth from the Crusaders. With two runners in scoring position and no outs in the top of the fifth, Ben Wilcoxson laced a double to right center, scoring Chase Andrews. Reece Puckett then flied out to left, bringing home Lane Kirkland.
Wesleyan got one more back in the top of the sixth. Joseph Burke led off the inning with a single to left and reached third after a walk from Brayden Sisson and a single from Ian Ellis. Lane Kirkland brought Burke home with a sacrifice fly to center.
Alex Franzen suffered his first loss of the season, going 3.1 innings and allowing six runs off of five hits and striking out two. Rylan Thomas worked three innings of relief, striking out three. Drake Hamil kept the Crusaders scoreless in 1.0 inning of work, allowing one hit.
The Panthers head back to South Carolina next weekend, this time to take on Wayne State. The four-game series will open with a single game on Friday at Shipyard Park in Charleston, S.C.
