Panther Football: Game Two Preview

The Kentucky Wesleyan College football team is back in action this week, hosting former Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Quincy University.  Kick off is slated for 1 pm CT on Saturday at Independence Bank Field at Steele Stadium.

Series History
The Panthers hold the all-time record over the Hawks by a narrow margin of 7-6.  Quincy has won the last four match ups ('02, '12, '13, '18) including their largest victory margin of 54 points during the 2013 season.  Wesleyan is 2-4 when hosting the Hawks and won five straight meetings from 1997 to 2001.

Kentucky Wesleyan (0-1)
The Panthers are coming off a 17-14 loss to NAIA No. 6 Concordia.  The Cardinals doubled Wesleyan's offensive output, 369-yards to 146-yards.  The Panthers offense found their stride in the fourth quarter racking up 96-yards in their final two drives.  De'Ondre Boggs hauled in his first touchdown of the season on a beautiful pass from freshman quarterback Wiley Cain with just under six minutes remaining to cut the deficit to three.  However a missed Panther field goal allowed Concordia to hold on for the win.

Quincy Hawks (1-0)
Quincy jumped to a 26-0 lead in the first half against Central State last week, eventually winning 38-8.  The Hawks posted 526-yards of total offense with quarterback Andrew Rund contributing 265-yards passing.  Quincy's run game accumulated 230-yards from four ball carriers while tallying three scores.  The Hawks defense also shined, holding Central State scoreless until the fourth quarter.  Quincy recorded four sacks along with one interception while holding the Marauders to 84-yards rushing.  The Hawks look to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2016.
