Softball Clinches G-MAC Tournament Berth with Senator Sweep

ELKINS, W. Va. – For the sixth straight season, the Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team clinched a spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon after sweeping Davis & Elkins College by scores of 8-4 and 5-2.  The Panthers currently sit in fifth place with a conference record of 13-9 and two games remaining.

Game 1: KWC 8 – D&E 4
The Senators struck first with a solo home run in the bottom of the first but the Panthers responded with three runs in both the third and fourth inning.  Lexie Mullen and Jaclyn Parker both tabbed RBI doubles in the third before Davis & Elkins got one back in the bottom of the frame, cutting Wesleyan's lead to 3-2.

Jaylin Tidwell continued to bring in the runs for the Panthers in the fourth, recording a two-out RBI single.  Mullen added two more runs for Wesleyan with her ninth home run of the season.

Davis & Elkins only recorded two hits in the fourth, but were able to score two runs to cut their deficit to 6-4.

The Panthers extended their lead in the fifth off of a one-run single from Jamie Tempel.  Wesleyan's final run was driven in by Terrilynn Summers in the sixth.

Autumn Grady took a no decision, throwing 3.1 innings and striking out two.  Evyn Hendrickson picked up her fifth win of the season, striking out three and holding the Senators scoreless in 3.2 innings.

Game 2: KWC 5 – D&E 2
Tidwell put the Panthers on the board in the top of the first with a solo home run for her fourth home run of the season.  Davis & Elkins knotted the game in the bottom of the frame with a two-out RBI single.

Andee Powell and Tempel were both hit by a pitch in the second, putting two on with two outs.  Meredith Daunhauer drove in both base runners with a double to right field, putting Wesleyan ahead 3-1.

The Senators made in a one-run game in the bottom of the third, plating one run with a two-out RBI double to center field.

Wesleyan responded with four hits, all with two outs, in the next inning to score two runs.  Tempel, Danhauer, Maddie Dawson and Tidwell combined for four-straight singles with Dawson and Tidwell both driving in one run.

Maci Brown picked up the complete game win, striking out three and allowing six hits in 7.0 innings.

The Panthers close out the regular season on Sunday, facing Alderson Broaddus University at 12 pm CT in Philippi, W. Va.
