One Down, Two to Go

OWENSBORO, Ky. – A slow start didn't hold back the Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team on Thursday, defeating Ohio Dominican University 89-49 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference quarterfinal.  The historic season continues for the Panthers, extending the programs longest home game win streak to 16 and reaching 23 wins in a season for the first time in program history.

Both offenses struggled in the first frame, resulting in a 15-15 tie after the first ten minutes of action.  Wesleyan recovered in the second quarter, erupting for 29 points to take a 44-34 lead to the break. 

A three-pointer from Keelie Lamb started a 7-0 run for the Panthers that was capped off with a three from Emma Wolfe.  The burst gave the Panthers a 10-point lead for their first double-digit lead of the game.

Ohio Dominican responded with a three but Wesleyan took over with 10 straight points to establish a 41-24 lead with 2:34 remaining.

Wesleyan shot 44.4% from the floor in the first half, outrebounding Ohio Dominican 17-11.

It was smooth sailing for the Panthers in the second half, holding Ohio Dominican to 15 points in the final 20 minutes while scoring 29 in the third and 16 in the fourth.  Wesleyan went on to score 16 three's in the 50-point victory.

Emma Johnson and Lamb led the way with 16 points, with Johnson knocking back four three's.  Kaylee Clifford and Jenna Martin both reached double figures with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Lily Grimes paved the way with eight rebounds, six of which were defensive.  The Panthers had no problem sharing the ball, recording 23 assists with Lamb leading the way with seven.

Johnson and Emma Wolfe both tabbed two blocks while Lamb recorded three steals.

The Panthers will face the No. 3 seed Cedarville in the G-MAC semifinal.  The Final Four will be played at the No. 1 seed, Walsh University in Canton, Ohio.
