OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games on Monday night to Brescia University.
Game 1: Brescia 2 – KWC 0
The Panther offense went cold in game one, only producing four hits. Wesleyan loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first but were unable to plate a run.
The Bearcats scored one run each in the fourth and fifth on a fly ball to center and an RBI groundout.
Evyn Hendrickson threw her second complete game of the season, striking out seven and allowing two runs off of five hits.
Meredith Daunhauer went two-for-three at the plate while Maddie Dawson and Jaclyn Parker both tallied one hit.
Game 2: Brescia 5 – KWC 4
Brescia posted two runs in the top of the first on a two-out single to left center. The Panthers responded in the bottom of the third, stringing together three hits to plate two runs. Lexie Mullen laid down a single in center field, driving in Dawson and Daunhauer who led off the inning with back-to-back hits.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning, keeping the score knotted at three. The Bearcats led off the inning with a solo home run. With one on and two outs, Dawson laced a double to centerfield, scoring Andee Powell.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers rallied with back-to-back two-out singles. Parker hit a groundball to the shortstop that was misplayed, allowing pinch runner Micaela Polivick to score and give Wesleyan a 4-3 lead.
The Brescia regained the lead in the top of the seventh on a two-run home run to centerfield. Wesleyan was unable to rally in the seventh.
Bailey Woodall took her third loss of the season, going 6.0 innings with two strikeouts, six hits and five runs. Autumn Grady threw the final 1.0 inning, striking out two and allowing one hit.
Mullen finished game two three-for-four at the plate with two runs driven in. Daunhauer and Dawson both recorded two hits. The Panthers tallied 11 hits but stranded 12 runners.
Wesleyan opens Great Midwest Athletic Conference play this weekend, traveling to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Trevecca Nazarene. The doubleheader starts at 2 pm CT on Saturday, March 16.
