Panthers Fall Twice on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team dropped a pair of games on Friday morning, ending their annual trip to the Sunshine State 4-3. The Panthers fell to Western Oregon 8-2 before taking a 7-3 loss from the University of Mary.

Game 1: Western Oregon - 8, Kentucky Wesleyan - 2
The Wolves jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after Chandler Bishop connected on a two-out, three-run homerun. WOU added to their lead in the top of the third with an RBI single, but the Panthers (6-7) answered with Lexie Mullen's first homerun of the season, a solo shot deep over the left field fence in the bottom half.

A two-out RBI double in the fifth added to the Wolves lead while they made it an 8-1 contest in the seventh with another three-run homerun. Abbey Winstead hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning to end the scoring for the Panthers.

Game 2: Kentucky Wesleyan - 3, Mary - 7
The Marauders (4-5) worked themselves into hitting counts early as they took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two-out double. Wesleyan hit back in the top of third with Maddie Dawson's two-out RBI single, but the two-out rally fell short.

After a lead-off homerun, UM loaded the bases with no-outs in the bottom half and scored three more times. The Panthers made the first two outs at home, but a two-out RBI single opened the game-up. The Marauders held a 7-1 lead after four innings.

The Panthers scored twice with two-outs in the top of the seventh on Jaylin Tidwell's single into right. Tidwell finished the game two for three with two RBIs.

Wesleyan returns home on Saturday March 9th to play Davenport and Missouri Science and Technology. First pitch is scheduled for 12PM CT. Preceded the Panthers' game will be Davenport and Missouri S&T.
