CLERMONT, Fla. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team dropped a pair of games on Friday morning, ending their annual trip to the Sunshine State 4-3. The Panthers fell to Western Oregon 8-2 before taking a 7-3 loss from the University of Mary.
Game 1: Western Oregon - 8, Kentucky Wesleyan - 2
The Wolves jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after Chandler Bishop connected on a two-out, three-run homerun. WOU added to their lead in the top of the third with an RBI single, but the Panthers (6-7) answered with
Lexie Mullen's first homerun of the season, a solo shot deep over the left field fence in the bottom half.
A two-out RBI double in the fifth added to the Wolves lead while they made it an 8-1 contest in the seventh with another three-run homerun.
Abbey Winstead hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning to end the scoring for the Panthers.
Game 2: Kentucky Wesleyan - 3, Mary - 7
The Marauders (4-5) worked themselves into hitting counts early as they took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two-out double. Wesleyan hit back in the top of third with
Maddie Dawson's two-out RBI single, but the two-out rally fell short.
After a lead-off homerun, UM loaded the bases with no-outs in the bottom half and scored three more times. The Panthers made the first two outs at home, but a two-out RBI single opened the game-up. The Marauders held a 7-1 lead after four innings.
The Panthers scored twice with two-outs in the top of the seventh on
Jaylin Tidwell's single into right. Tidwell finished the game two for three with two RBIs.
Wesleyan returns home on Saturday March 9
th to play Davenport and Missouri Science and Technology. First pitch is scheduled for 12PM CT. Preceded the Panthers' game will be Davenport and Missouri S&T.
