Panthers End Calendar Year with a Bang

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball return from a weeklong hiatus on Monday and hosted the University of Cumberlands. The Panthers had seven days to recharge for the second half of season and suffered no lay-off. Wesleyan never trailed while extending its home winning streak to 27-games after 91-41 victory. Keelie Lamb led five players in double-figures with 17 points.
 
The Panthers (13-0) converted nearly 70% of their shots in the opening quarter and burst out to a 31-7 lead. Lamb's lay-up capped off a 21-1 run through the first six minutes of the game. Lily Skye Grimes was tough in transition as she had nine points in the opening quarter, making three of four attempts from the field and two free-throws.
 
The Wesleyan offense slowed in the second period, but the defense remained stifling. The Panthers shot 35% in the frame, but forced 10 turnovers, scoring 11 points off the Patriots (11-3) miscues. Lamb scored 11 of her team-high 17 points in the first half. The Panthers went in to the locker-room with a 49-19 lead.
 
Lamb, KeelieThe ability to rotate fresh players on the floor continued in the second half as the Panthers shot 53% in the third quarter and 63% in the fourth. Emma Johnson found her shooting touch in the fourth quarter as she scored all her points in the final frame, going four for four from the field.
 
Johnson ended the game with 13 points on four of six shooting. She also dished out three assists and recorded three steals. Lamb tallied 17 points and six rebounds on the night. Grimes notched a season-high 15 points while Kaylee Clifford added 12 points. Tahlia Walton finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
 
In total the Panthers scored 41 points off 31 Patriot turnovers. Wesleyan also held a 38-16 lead from points in the paint.
 
Wesleyan will return to Great Midwest action in the New Year. The Panthers will travel to North Canton, Ohio on Thursday to play Walsh. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30PM CT.
