Panthers Fall in G-MAC Quarterfinals

NORTH CANTON, Ohio  - The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team ended its season on Saturday in the Great Midwest Conference Tournament. The Panthers were on the wrong end of a 1-0 result to Walsh. The Cavilers advance to the semi-finals in Dayton next week.

The Panthers (8-10) attacked the Cavilers from the opening whistle back in October and picked-up a 4-1 at Panther Field. This go around Wesleyan had to make the journey up north. The Cavs (14-4) were more condition for the Panthers' excessive speed than they were in October, placing a strong line of defenders along the back line.

Wesleyan still managed to find possessions over the top, but their chances were limited on Saturday. Walsh provided a firm attack from the start taking 13 shots, six on goal. Taylor Rentchler made all the stops in the first 45 minutes to preserve a scoreless tie.

Wesleyan got two good looks to break the tie within the first 10 minutes of the second period. Madisyn Hunt misfired in the 54th minute and immediately after the Panthers saw Natalie Hinchcliffe's shot attempt sail right of the Cavs' net.

In the 75th minute, Hunt got free again and saw her shot saved Mickey McClanahan on the bottom left corner. The Cavs received their break in the 78th minute on a corner kick. The set-piece did not immediately result in a score as Walsh got two shots off in the series, but the Panthers could not defend their third successive shot attempt. Olivia Peters converted the lone score of the match in the 79th minute.

The Panthers were unable to find an opportunity of find the equalizer in the final 10 minutes as the Cavs packed-it-in defensively. Hinchcliffe took four shots, one on goal. Rentchler made 11 saves.
