CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball wrapped up its 2019-20 exhibition schedule on Tuesday night, taking on the Governors of Austin Peay State University. The Panthers couldn't stop a hot Governors offense, falling 103-70 at the Winfield Dunn Center.
Austin Peay drained six three's in the first quarter to jump out to a 10-point lead. Facing a 14-point deficit with less than a minute remaining, Lily Grimes worked hard in the paint for a lay up before Keelie Lamb converted a pair of free throws to make it 29-19.
The second quarter opened with a lay up from Tahlia Walton, extending Wesleyan's run to 6-0 before the Govs knocked back a three. The Panthers committed seven turnovers in the second quarter while Austin Peay shot 88.2% to extend their lead to 68-36 at the break.
The Panther offense found its rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring Austin Peay 20-18 while shooting 57.1% from the floor to the Govs 38.9%. Jordyn Barga ignited a 6-0 run for the Panthers with back-to-back fast break lay ups before Walton knocked back a pair of free throws. Barga finished the third frame with seven points, shooting a perfect three-for-three along with 1-1 at the charity stripe.

Wesleyan nearly outscored the Govs in the second half, being edged 35-34. The Panthers finished 7-19 from behind the arc while allowing Austin Peay to shoot 18-33.
Lamb and Kaylee Clifford paced the Panthers with 11 points while AJ Thomas led the team with five rebounds, all of which were defense. Cali Nolot posted a team-high three assists while Clifford recorded two steals.
The Panthers kick off the regular season this weekend at the Pops Duncan Classic hosted by Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville, Tenn. Wesleyan will take on a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conferences foes in Rockhurst on Friday and Missouri S&T on Saturday.
