OWENSBORO, Ky. – A strong third quarter sealed a win for the Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, defeating Missouri Baptist University 92-65 in their final tune up before Great Midwest Athletic Conference action begins.
The win extends the Panthers' home win streak to 21 games, their longest home win streak in program history.
The Spartans held a two-point lead at the 3:20 mark of the first quarter until Lily Skye Grimes went two-for-two at the charity stripe to even the score. Wesleyan finished the first frame on a 7-2 run to take a 19-15 lead.
Wesleyan opened the second with a 7-0 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game. Emma Johnson tallied a fast break lay up before capping off the run with a three. Johnson scored 11 points in the second quarter alone as the Panthers took a 44-31 lead to the break.
The third quarter was dominated by Wesleyan, outscoring Missouri Baptist 33-13 while shooting 11-of-14 from field goal range (78.6%). Cali Nolot sparked a 9-0 run for the Panthers, knocking back a three before Tahlia Walton and Grimes both worked hard in the paint for a lay up.
Walton and Grimes paced the Panthers with 14 points each. Keelie Lamb, Emma Johnson and Jordyn Barga also finished in double figures.
Kaylee Clifford finished with a team-high six rebounds while Grimes dished out six assists. Nolo, Kaylee Duncan and Lead Richardson each recorded two steals while Lamb and Clifford tallied one block each.
The Panthers scored 25 points off of 26 turnovers while dominating the paint at 40-26. Wesleyan's bench recorded 50 points to the Spartans 23.
Wesleyan opens G-MAC play this week, hosting Ohio Dominican on Thursday and Tiffin on Saturday at The Sportscenter.
