OWENSBORO, KY. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision to Ursuline University on Thursday evening. The Arrows scored two second half goals to take down the Panthers in Great Midwest action.
The Arrows (3-4-1, 2-3-1 GMAC) found fortune early in the match as they picked off a pass in the Panthers' box. Hannah Pickens turned the steal into a the first goal of the match in the 12th minute.
The lead was short lived as the Panthers (3-6, 1-5 GMAC) found the equalizer 10 minutes later. Natalie Hinchcliffe took the corner kick that curved into the Ursuline box. The shot caromed off the defense and into the corner of the Arrows' goal.
Taylor Rentchler made three saves in the first half and help moved the match into the second period tied a 1-1. The next 45 minutes featured a different pace and tempo from the first. The Arrows kept continuous pressure on Wesleyan. Ursuline took 17 shots in the second half, 10 on goal.
The Arrows broke the tie in the 50th minute and later added insurance with another score in the 65th minute. Ursuline benefited from a handball call that resulted into a penalty kick which Sarah Mitchell converted for the third goal of the match.
Ursuline packed it in defensively thereafter, only taking calculated chances on offense. The packed-in defense made it increasingly difficult for the Panthers to get chances over the top the rest of the way.
Hinchcliffe finished with four shots, two on goal with one score. Rentchler made 11 saves.
The Panthers will host Lake Erie on Saturday. The match at Panthers Field is scheduled to start at 2:30 PM.
